Editing

I specialize in weird fiction, satire, fantasy, sci-fi, and horror for adults, and in all middle grade genres, though I am open to other genres, including nonfiction.
I offer 2 types of edits: a line and copy edit or a developmental edit. For both, I provide edits in tracked changes and in comment boxes in Word. Before hiring, I offer a 30 minute discovery call and a free 500-word sample edit.
A line and copy edit is great for an author looking to polish their manuscript for publication or submission. I will address flow and clarity, consistency of style, syntax, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting. I typically use US spelling conventions and the Chicago Manual of Style, but can use others based on the author's preference. Average turnaround for an 80,000 word manuscript is 2 weeks.
A developmental edit is more in-depth and is for the author who wants to strengthen the foundational elements of their story. Based on their stated vision for the project, I will analyze and provide comments on story structure, plot, character arcs, point of view, voice, theme, and world building. In addition to edits in tracked changes and comment boxes, I will also provide a summary report on my observations and suggestions. Average turnaround for an 80,000 word manuscript is 4 weeks.

Meticulous, straightforward, and warm.
As an author, I know how daunting it can be to let someone read and edit my work. At the same time, I also appreciate actionable and clear feedback and want my work to be as strong as possible. That’s why when I edit a manuscript, my main goal is to give you the boost to reach your goals, not try to change your work to fit standards that might stifle your style or creativity.
Every author and every manuscript is unique. Before we get started, I will listen to what your writing and publishing goals are so I can tailor my editing to your unique manuscript. Over email and during our discovery call, I will ask you questions about your vision and what you hope to get out of the editing process. I am excited to champion your work!

I have 5 years of experience editing book-length manuscripts.
I’ve worked with over 20 published authors, both traditionally and indie published.
I’ve been an editor for So To Speak, a literary magazine established in 1992, since January 2025, and I am so proud to have edited a 2026 Best of the Net winner: The Harvest by Kathleen Field!
I have taken multiple graduate-level workshops and classes on literature and writing craft, including on plot and point of view.
I earned an MA in applied anthropology (University of South Florida) and a BA in public policy and anthropology (University of Virginia).
I am a published literary and speculative fiction author. Experience has shown me that strong editing is a big part of getting acceptances and reaching my audience.
